2012 Shadwell Turf Mile Stakes Race Favorites

Wise Dan - Wise Dan ended his 2011 campaign with impressive wins in the Grade 2 Fayette Stakes and the Grade 1 Clark Handicap and started 2012 with yet another win - the Grade 3 Ben Ali Stakes at Keeneland in April. He continued his strong 2012 campaign with a decent second in the Grade 1 Stephen Foster Handicap at Churchill Downs on June 16 and followed that with an impressive win by five lengths in the Grade 2 Fourstardave Handicap at Saratoga on August 11. Last time out was yet another win in the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile September 16. That makes six wins in his last seven starts for the favorite in this race - he is definitely the one everyone will have their eyed fixed upon.

Data Link - finished a respectable third in the Grade 3 Canadian Turf Stakes at Gulfstream on March 3 in his graded stakes debut went on to win the Makers 46 Mile in impressive fashion. Data Link won the Grade 2 Monmouth Stakes in record time to follow a fifth in the Turf Classic Stakes at Churchill Downs. He is coming off yet another impressive result - a second in the Grade 2 Bernard Baruch Handicap September 1. He has won three of his last six starts and has placed in two others making him a serious threat to Wise Dan.

Shadwell Turf Mile Stakes 2012 | Remaining Field Entries

Dominus - Todd Pletcher trained colt has only two starts in 2012 both on grass - last time out was an impressive win over Data Link in the Grade 2 Bernard Baruch. Before that was an Allowance Optional Claiming score after a year layoff. With two wins in two starts this year, Dominus has to be on the Shadwell radar.

Silver Max - He has won six of his last seven starts including the Grade 3 Transylvania Stakes, the Grade 2 American Turf Stakes this year in wire-to-wire fashion, two straight minor stakes races - the Arlington Classic and the Oliver by 6 3/4 lengths at Indiana Downs. Last time out was a disappointing fifth in the Grade 1 Secretariat Stakes however. Look for him to bounce back and challenge this week against older competition for the first time.

Corporate Jungle - had won four of his last five starts - three in a row including the Grade 3 Appleton Stakes at Gulfstream on March 31 and the Elkwood Stakes at Monmouth on May 19 but ended that streak with a fifth in the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile. Last time out was a bounce back effort - a second to Wise Dan in the Fourstardave Handicap on August 11. Corporate Jungle is just another intriguing name to watch this weekend.

Swift Warrior - won the minor Win Stakes last time out at Saratoga to follow a distant sixth in the Grade 2 Mervin H. Muniz Memorial in April. His other two results this year were thirds in the Grade 3 Tampa Bay Stakes and a Handicap at Tampa Bay in February.

Worthadd - Irish bred Worthadd made his North American debut last time out - a seventh in the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile. He had a stellar career in Italy before shipping to North America and is a multiple group winner in Britain who finished a decent second two back in a group II race in Germany July 15. He has nine wins, two seconds and two third place finishes in 18 career starts.

Willcox Inn - Won the Grade 3 Hawthorne Derby in October but hasn't been the same since - an eighth in the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby was followed by an Allowance score on July 22. Last time out was another disappointing result - eighth in the Grade 1 Arlington Millions

Skyring - has a staggering 12 starts already in 2012 with three wins, two seconds and a third place finish. Last time out was a decent second in the Grade 3 Saranac to follow a sixth in the Grade 2 Hall of Fame Stakes at Saratoga and an OK third at the Grade 3 American Derby. He has been inconsistent and isn't likely to contend against some good competition this week.

Ol Army - makes his stakes debut on Saturday after two wins and two seconds in six career Allowance and Maiden Special Weight races

Doubles Partner - Todd Pletcher trained Doubles Partner won the Grade 3 Canadian Turf Stakes in March and followed that with an OK third in the Grade Maker's 46 Mile and a fourth last time out in the Grade 1 Woodford Turf Classic.

Slip and Drive - makes his stakes debut but is coming off three Allowance wins and a second in the Sussex Stakes in his last four starts.
