Lake Placid Stakes 2013 at Saratoga Race Course

Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 2 Woodford Reserve Lake Placid Stakes is on tap for Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York this Sunday, August 18. Three year old fillies will take to Saratoga's turf track and race 1 1/8 miles for a purse of $200,000.

The Lake Placid Stakes has attracted a field of seven three year old fillies plus two Main Track Only entries for race 8 on Saratoga's Sunday schedule. Post time is 4:39 PM. Here is a look into the past performances of all nine combatants for this Grade 2 stakes.

2013 Lake Placid Stakes Race Favorites

Tapicat - legendary Bill Mott trained Tapicat has won three of her five career starts - three in a row including the Grade 3 Florida Oaks at Tampa Bay Downs way back on February 2, a one mile Allowance Optional Claiming score by 5 1/4 January 9 at Gulfstream and a MSW score before that. Last time out was one of her two blemishes - an OK third in the Grade 2 Lake George Stakes here July 24 after 5 1/2 months away. Her other career start was a third in a MSW at Belmont Park October 28. She is 9-5 on the morning line and breaks from post 2 Sunday.

Watsdachances - Irish bred filly started her career in Europe but it wasn't until she hit North American soil that she emerged a contender. Watsdachances won her first two starts in America - the P.G. Johnson Stakes in her debut and the Grade 3 Miss Grillo at Belmont Park October 8 and then followed that with a very good second behind Flotilla in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf in November. In her only starts since the Breeders' Cup she was fourth in the Grade 3 Appalachian Stakes at Keeneland April 18, an OK third in the Grade 3 Sands Point Stakes at Belmont Park May 27 and second last time out in the Grade 2 Lake George July 24. The Chad Brown looks for her first win of 2013 Sunday. She will have Javier Castellano in the saddle from post 2 and is listed at 2-1 odds for the Lake Placid.

Concise - will make just her second start in North America for trainer H. Graham Motion - the first being a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Saratoga July 25. Before that was six starts in England with a win in September and on third place finish in April of this year. She will have Joel Rosario guiding her as she goes off at 5-1 odds.

Silsita - Todd Pletcher trained filly made her stakes debut with a very impressive win in the Grade 3 Fathead Bourbonette Oaks at Turfway Park March 23 after a third in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Gulfstream February 2, a fourth before that and a MSW score at Calder in her debut November 29. She followed her Fathead score with an ugly tenth in the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks in May but has looked better since. Silsita is coming off a win last time out in the minor My Princess Jess Stakes here July 20 after an OK second in the minor Astronomia Stakes at Belmont Park June 13. John Velazquez will be in the saddle Sunday as she breaks from post 6 at 6-1 odds

Broken Spell - D. Wayne Lukas trained filly has just one win in 17 career starts but has placed in two of her last three races - both minor stakes action. Last time out was a second in the minor My Princess Jess Stakes July 20 after an OK fourth in the Grade 3 Regret Stakes June 15. She also had a fourth in the Grade 3 Fathead Bourbonette earlier this year. She has a win, three seconds and three third place finishes in 17 career starts. She starts from post 5 at 8-1 odds Sunday.

Caroline Thomas - Barclay Tagg trained filly has eight career starts with a second and two wins to start her career. She has five starts in 2013 - on OK third January 27 in the minor Sweetest Chant Stakes at Gulfstream and a pair of fifths in graded stakes action - in the Grade 3 Herecomesthebride Stakes at Gulfstream March 2 and the Grade 2 Sands Point May 27. She is coming off a fifth in the minor My Princess Jess Stakes July 20 after a third in the Bit of Whimsey Stakes June 16. She is currently the second longest shot in the field on the morning line at 12-1 odds and will race from post 6.

Nellie Cashman - Francis Abbott III trainee made the most of her graded stakes debut last time out winning the Grade 3 Virginia Oaks July 13 after breaking maiden June 21 in her seventh career start. Before that was a pair of seconds in MSW races at Pimlico. She has improved every time out and could threaten the field Sunday. She goes off as the 15-1 longest shot in the field from post 4 despite the win last time out.

Flash Forward - Main Track Only entry has nine career starts with two wins and two second place finishes. Her last two starts have been OK - seconds in a pair of minor stakes races - the Broom Dance Stakes last time out and the Open Mind Stakes in June. Her last graded stakes action came in March - an eighth in the Grade 3 Honeybee Stakes at Oaklawn Park.

Skyfall - Main Track Only entry and Todd Pletcher pupil has two wins, a second and a third in seven career starts. She is coming off a fifth in the minor Reidere Stakes in June and a third in the minor Little Silver Stakes in May - both results at Monmouth Park. She last tasted victory May 8 - an Allowance score at Belmont Park.
